July 31

Proverbs 10:25
When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.

When the group began, there were sixteen people involved. They all made a contract to lose twenty pounds by spring. Spring was less than two weeks away, and the group was down to seven members. As Jean walked along the sidewalk toward the building where her group met, she noticed some small saplings bending in the stiff March breeze. Some had broken off, but a few determined little plants held on for dear life. 'I'm like that,' Jean thought. 'Most of the others have given up, but I'm going to hang in there, no matter how stiff the challenge.' Perseverance is a huge part of a successful diet. Continually ask God for commitment to your cause. He is good to give it.

Today's Thought:  I'm determined to make it, no matter what!

Today's Tip:  To reduce the amount of fat you consume, use skim milk as opposed to whole. One cup of whole milk contains 8 g of fat and 150 calories. The same amount of skim milk has only trace amounts of fat and 86 calories. If you absolutely can't stand skim milk, then try to work your way down by using low-fat milk, such as 1%, which contains 3 g of fat and 102 calories per cup. This advice does not apply to children, since their nutritional requirements are different.

Chutney Cheese Sandwich

2 slices whole grain bread
1/3 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese
1 Tbsp. Major Grey chutney

Spread a slice of bread with chutney, then cover with cheese. Top with other slice of bread. Place sandwich in a nonstick frying pan over medium high heat. Toast on each side until cheese melts. Open sandwich and tuck in fresh spinach leaves or watercress sprigs.
